Microsoft has apparently decided to ship the retail versions of Windows Vista Service Pack 1 and should be available online at Amazon.com tomorrow.
As you may already know, Microsoft released the final SP1 code to testers on in early February and the company has also issued the product to subscribers of Microsoft’s TechNet and MSDN. In the interim, the company has also let the update slip onto Windows Update, and quickly removed it from Windows Update.
Initially, Microsoft planned to have the retail boxed copies of Windows Vista with SP1 integrated on store shelves in April, now in according to sources "We were actually able to ship sooner than originally anticipated–today, in fact. Customers should expect to see Windows Vista SP1 (boxed copies) online and on store shelves as soon as retailers can make them available–in Amazon’s case, starting tomorrow." said the source. That being said, you will be able to purchase Windows Vista with SP1 starting tomorrow through Amazon.com.
As far as when SP1 will show up on new PCs, Microsoft is saying that will take at least until next month (April) in most cases. "We released Windows Vista SP1 to manufacturers on February 4," Said a source. "Since then, retailers have been working to build PCs with Windows Vista SP1 and make them available to consumers as soon as possible. Based on what we understand from our partners in retail and OEMs, April is our best estimate for availability for PCs with SP1. However, there will be certain exceptions based on individual companies’ distribution models."
