Microsoft is preparing to release a test version of Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Release Candidate (RC) to testers sometime during the week of December 1, 2007.
Microsoft had released a preview build of Windows Vista SP1 RC to 15,000 pre-selected testers on November 14, 2007, and this build is currently the only one available to testers. As stated before, current testers (15,000) will get the Windows Vista SP1 RC sometime next week, it has been said by mid-week testers should be given access to the updated release candidate.
In addition, the company also plans to release the Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Release Candidate to the general public by making the build available to those interested in testing the service pack release candidate. Microsoft is expecting to release the public test version before Friday, December 17, 2007 (this will be the same build current beta testers will already be testing).
Accordingly, Microsoft is still planning to ship the final code for Windows Vista Service Pack 1 by the end of the first quarter in 2008, or around the same time the company plans to ship the updated and much anticipated Windows Server 2008 system.
This coming week will be interesting, and it will be interesting to see what the release candidate has in-store for testers and the public, which follows one week after the build goes to testers.
We will update you when the build is available to testers on Microsoft Connect and it goes out to the public. We will be doing an analysis of the release candidate and will post it once the release candidate is publicly available.
Finally, while the company is planning to ship Windows Vista Service Pack 1 during the first quarter of 2008, Microsoft could ship the final product in-line with Windows Server 2008, which is scheduled to be released on February 27, 2008 during which the company will officially launch the product.
