To start off this review will be simple, if you played Gears of War on Xbox 360 then your already familiar with the game. However, you are also missing out on a few additions in the PC version of Gears of War.
If you enjoyed playing Gears of War on the Xbox 360, or if you’ve never played the Xbox 360 version, you will enjoy every minute of the game. The game is intense, and full of non-stop action. Generally, I am usually bias towards this type of shooter — I am one for a good ole FPS — however, Gears of War just has something that not too many of these types of shooters have, action, blood and of course gore.
The PC version of Gears of War brings with it five action packed new game chapters (single player) which are just as intense as the original story. In addition to the new game chapters, Gears of War also brings three new multiplayer maps and a new multiplayer game mode. As with the Xbox 360 version of the game, it is also LIVE enabled, which means you can play and connect with friends via Microsoft Windows LIVE (or more commonly known as Xbox LIVE). Additonally, you get 50 additional achievements which are unique to the PC version.
As with any other LIVE enabled game, you can use your Xbox 360 controller (wired or wireless with wireless receiver for Windows), or you can use the usual keyboard and mouse to play the game. I must say, this is probably the best game out right now for Games For Windows LIVE, and I would recommend it to anyone who is a PC gamer.
Gears of War for Windows doesn’t stray too far off the beaten path with the original story line, its still the same game but with the added comfort of being able to play it on PC.
Although, If anything Gears of War PC multiplayer is even worse than on the 360 because, with the 360, at least people were actually playing the game and you could get into online matches. I’ve never seen an appreciable number of people playing the PC version online and as of today, it’s a ghost town. And this, finally, is as it should be. Maybe PC game players just have more common sense than console players.
Overall the requirements for the game on PC aren’t to bad, the game requires the following (these are the minimum requirements):
Gears of War System Requirements:
Operating System: Windows Vista or Windows XP
Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel or 2.0 GHz AMD
Memory: 1 GB
Hard Drive: 12 GB free hard drive space
Video Card: Nvidia Geforce 6600 or ATI x700.
Naturally, if your system spec’s are higher than the required, you will get better performance while you play the game. Overall I would say the game is a great addition to the Games For Windows LIVE library, and there should be more like it.
