Instead of showing the default logon, logoff and shutdown status messages at the welcome screen (Figure A), Windows displays status message that reflect each step in the process of starting, shutting down, logging on, or logging off the system. However, this setting is ignored if you have the Disable Boot / Shutdown / Logon / Logoff status messages policy enabled. 

When this is enabled Windows will now display the information (as stated above) to reflect each step in the process.

To enable this feature, do the following….

1.) Click the Windows Start Button   and select "Run" (if you do not have "Run" shown on the start menu hit WINKEY+R) and type "gpedit.msc" (without quotes)

2.) Once Group Policy Editor is up and running select and Expand "Computer Configuration" from the left side.

3.) Next we need to expand Administrative Templates and highlight the System folder on the left (See image below).

4.) Your Group Policy Editor window should now look like the one depicted above, if so, scroll down to "Verbose vs normal status messages."

5.) Next, right click on "Verbose vs normal status messages" and select "properties" from the context menu.

6.) In the Setting tab in the properties window you will see the radio button next to "Not Configured" selected, to enable this feature, click "Enabled" and hit Apply and OK.

Now, you can close Group Policy Editor and next time you reboot your logoff your computer you will now see detailed status messages.
